Feedback as a Prism
Last week marked the final session of a group coaching program that really made me think differently about perspective. As we shared our takeaways, one participant's words about the impact the program had for her really resonated with me. She shared "It’s like a new prism through which to view my life."
I found myself reflecting on this... A prism doesn't just magnify what we see - it breaks it apart, showing the full range of colors hidden in what looks like simple white light.
The best feedback works the same way. While we frequently treat feedback as a mirror - showing us what is - it is also a prism - showing us what could be through different viewpoints. It doesn't just sharpen our existing view; it shows us aspects we couldn't see on our own.
How might your life or leadership change if you saw feedback not as confirmation or correction, but as a chance to see the full spectrum of who you are and what's possible?
When was the last time someone's perspective acted as a prism for you, showing colors you hadn't noticed before?
